On Thursday, May 15, nearly 700 people attended the 3rd annual Matt’s Promise benefit concert at the prestigious Cipriani Wall Street. The room was awash in warm lights and the Matt’s Promise logo held a prominent place to remind us all why we were there – to fulfill Matt Wiederkehr’s dying wish to help young people battling terminal diseases. His passion has become our vision and everyone who attended the event had a hand in helping us raise more than $800,000! Our 2008 event honored Morgan Procida, the 17-year-old who launched our 5K Memory Run that raised $40,000 to fund research into synovial sarcoma. We also honored the cast and crew of Darius Goes West, featuring Darius Weems, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy. A highlight of the event was showcasing the songs by 80s band, Squeeze, which had the audience up on its feet and singing along. And all of our guests walked away happy after visiting the Judith Ripka jewelry bar and fishbowl raffle, or by participating in the live auction which featured dinner at Rao’s, a weekend in Napa Valley, and US Open tickets, to name a few. By all accounts, it was a night that will never be forgotten. Of course we owe so much to our most generous sponsors. Thank you!
